THE ONYXTANBUL is a design and production brand established within the antique culture and historical layers of Balat, founded as a result of approximately two years of R&D focused on the field of onyx lighting. Within the global natural stone and lighting sectors, it is positioned as one of the limited number of specialized structures that concentrate their focus on onyx lighting. This area of specialization constitutes the fundamental framework that defines the brand’s production language and its strategy of differentiation in the market.
The onyx store located in Balat is positioned as a distinctive center where the historical memory of stone is brought together with a contemporary design approach, within an environment where antique culture is strongly felt. This structure is nourished by the intergenerational transfer of knowledge formed within a family enterprise possessing approximately 30 years of natural stone experience. This continuity established with natural stone is currently sustained by the second generation; traditional craftsmanship and material knowledge are preserved and restructured through a contemporary production and design approach.
THE ONYXTANBUL’s production approach is based on a highly specialized process that begins directly at the onyx quarry. The selection, classification, and transformation of raw stone into lighting objects are carried out in accordance with specialized techniques developed through an R&D process spanning two years. The light transmissivity, veining structure, and layered depth of onyx are addressed as components of a holistic engineering and craftsmanship process controlled through design.
The brand has confined its field of expertise to onyx lighting in a manner rarely seen worldwide; within this scope, it has developed a design and production practice focused on antique onyx eclectic lighting and modern onyx lighting. References derived from antique onyx forms, historical objects, and period aesthetics are combined with contemporary production techniques and transformed into eclectic collections, while modern onyx lighting is produced through a restrained, clear, and timeless design language. These two approaches are addressed within a holistic system nourished by the same material knowledge.
Within this process, traditional knowledge is preserved and restructured in line with the expectations of today’s design world. In the current period, onyx lighting solutions specific to projects and spaces are developed through collaborations established with architects, interior architects, and designers.
